Rev. Verna Maria Young
Rev. Verna Maria Young serves as an Associate Minister at Baker Chapel A.M.E. Church in Ft. Worth, Texas. With a multifaceted career spanning law enforcement, addiction counseling, and social work, she has dedicated her life to service and community support. She worked within the D.C. Superior Court and the Court Services Offender Supervision Agency in Washington D.C.
A product of the Washington D.C. Public School System, Rev. Young matriculated to St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, Virginia, graduating in 1979 with a BA in Sociology. She later earned her Master of Social Work from Howard University in 1984 and her Master of Divinity from Howard University School of Divinity in 2006.
From 2002 to 2005, she was honored Who's Who Manager of the Year. Her professional expertise includes family counseling, child abuse probation, and substance abuse counseling (2002-2007). In 2011, she was ordained as an Itinerate Elder in the Washington Annual Conference at Ebenezer AMEC in Fort Washington, MD.
Rev. Young has served at several churches, including Jerusalem AME, Embry AME, and Bethel AME in San Antonio, TX, before transferring to the Northwest Conference of the Tenth Episcopal District in Texas. She is also a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (since 1979).
Rev. Young has one son, Bro. Peter Lawrence Jackson, Jr., who shares her deep love for the Lord.
